Description

Basil essential oil has a fresh, herbaceous aroma that can be calming and refreshing. Dilute with V-6 or another carrier oil when applying directly to desired area.

It is ANTIBACTERIAL, ANTI-INFECTIOUS, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANTIOXIDANT, ANTISEPTIC (stomach/intestinal), ANTISPASMODIC, ANTIVIRAL, DECONGESTANT (veins, arteries of the lungs, prostate), STIMULANT (nerves, adrenal cortex), and UPLIFTING. Basil may also be ANTICATARRHAL, ANTIDEPRESSANT, ENERGIZING, and RESTORATIVE.

Folklore: Considered by the ancient Greeks as the “king of plants”, basil was used to anoint kings. Hindus placed sprigs of basil on the chests of deceased loved ones to protect them from evil and to provide safe passage into the next life. Due to its supposed aphrodisiac qualities, Italian women displayed basil to attract possible suitors, and the men would present the women with basil sprigs.

Historical Uses: Basil was used in ancient times for respiratory problems, digestive and kidney ailments, epilepsy, poisonous insect or snake bites, fevers, epidemics, and malaria.
