Pilates Yoga Workouts

Pilates and yoga are two completely different workouts methods and disciplines but they are very compatible with each other and their combination can be used as a great workout method. If certain yoga postures and exercises are practiced, they can really compliment your Pilate workout sessions and deliver better results.

The following mentioned yoga practices can be combined along with the Pilate workout because they tend to merge into your Pilate routine comfortably.

  • Shoulder stand: lie on the mat or floor with your knees bent and feet flat. Let your arms rest against the floor.
While inhaling, bring your knees up and while exhaling, press onto the floor and with the help of your arms, extend your legs and bring them over the head.
At this position, your hips must be slightly raised to support the weight. Hold onto this position for a few seconds and repeat.
  • Mountain pose: stand in an active and alert position. Legs should be parallel to each other at hips distance apart.
Relax your shoulders and bring your ankles, knees, shoulders and hips in line.
Raise your hands over your head parallel to each other, with palms facing each other.
Lift your head and see in the upwards direction. Hold onto this position for 3 to 5 breaths.
  • Downward facing dog: get down on all your fours. Hands should be shoulder width apart from each other and in front of the shoulders.

Start by spreading your fingers, with the middle finger pointed out in the forward direction. Your knees must be at a hip distance apart.

Press your feet and your hands so as to lift your hips in the air. At this position, try and create a space between the thighs and the lower abdomen. Keep the back straight and hold this position for 5 breaths.
