There was a time when proper exercise machines were not invented for every posture and muscle. Even during that time people understood the importance of warm-up exercises and for this purpose people used to do sit-ups. Sit-ups are proven to strengthen lower back muscles but if they are not performed properly it can cause strain on back muscles which lead to further back problems.

Then there came a time when gym got hype and several exercise machines were designed for gyms to shape and tone up specific body areas. These machines were designed to use under trainers’ instructions and integrated together for all-body workout. Several difficulty levels can be set over them to enhance the endurance and ability to workout better than yesterdays. Only one disadvantage made them unsuitable for homes and that is their shapes and bulky weights are not good for home usage.

First light weight abdominal machine was made that is folding, portable, elastic and having springs to mimic the action of sit-ups and advanced concept of integrated machines to balance out whole body muscles. Certain difficulty levels were added in to enhance the workability of machines and enhance the development of abdominal muscles.

More improvements were done to ab machines, they were continuously improved to work for the ab muscles while minimizing the strain on back. Eventually we have come up with what we call as ab rollers and rubber balls. These equipments are safer and more effective than previous abs exercise equipments.
